1. Are there any computers I can use in the Library for my work?

In addition to the PCs in the CBCC Library, there is a E-Learning Laboratory equipped with 40 PCs in the Learning Commons. No reservation is needed.

2. Are there any printing and scanning services in the Library?

We provide a number of Octopus-operated multi-function photocopiers / printers in the CBCC Library and the Learning Commons for users to print, scan or photocopy. Some of them are for express printing with no Internet access provided. 

3. How can I access the Library electronic databases from home ?

Remote access to the e-resources requires authentication via Ezproxy by entering the Network login username (e.g. s190000xx / achan) and password. For enquires, please contact the Library or email library@cihe.edu.hk.

4. How can I book a room in the Library for studying and discussion with my classmates?

All 6 group discussion rooms in the Library have to be reserved on a first-come-first-served basis, subject to a minimum of 3 occupants and a maximum timeslot of 2 hours. Audio-visual equipment is provided. Please click HERE for reservation procedures and other regulations before you reserve a room.

5. How can I check my borrowing record? How can I renew an item online?

You can check your borrowing record and renew loaned items (on the condition that they are not yet overdue and/or not requested by others) in My Library Record.  Please click HERE for a simple step-by-step guide.

6. How can I make recommendation on a new book / journal title / audio-visual material ?

Students and staff members are welcome to make recommendations for purchase of library materials. Students may fill in a suggestion form at the Circulation Counter or fill in the Online Recommendation Form. Staff may make recommendations on library acquisitions by filling in the Application for Acquisition of Reference Materials Form and summit it to the Library.

7. How can I make suggestions to the Library ?

To make suggestions on library improvements, you may fill in a suggestion form at the Library. You may also email your suggestions to library@cihe.edu.hk. Your suggestions may be acted upon; responses will be displayed on Library notice board and suggestions with sender's email address will be replied promptly.

8. How can I request an item that is being checked out?

You can place a hold request via My Library Record. Please click HERE to view the procedures.

9. How do I apply for a Library Card ?


Staff
Each staff member is issued with a Staff Card, which serves to facilitate the staff member’s access to the Institute / College Library and to borrow library materials. If your card is lost or damaged, please report immediately to the Institute Secretariat

Student
Each student is issued with a Student Card, which serves to facilitate the student member's access to the Institute / College Library and to borrow library materials. If your card is lost or damaged, please report immediately to the Registry.

Graduates
All graduates are welcome to apply for a Library Card. For application details, please click HERE. If your card is lost or damaged, please report immediately to the Library.

10. How do I know if an item is available in the Library ?

If an item is available on shelf for use, the status shows "Available". If an item is not available on shelf, the status shows:

  • “Due Date: Day/Month/Year” – being checked out until the date indicated
  • “On Hold” – being kept in the Circulation Counter for pick up
  • “In Process” – being processed and is not available for circulation
  • “Library Use Only” – restricted to be used in the Library only
  • “Closed Stack” – being kept in Store Room. You may request the item from the Circulation Counter.

11. How many library items can I borrow and for how long? How many times can I renew an item?

12. How much overdue fines should I pay if I return an item late?

The rates of overdue fines vary with the loan period and the number of days that the item is late for return. Please click HERE to view the detailed information on the overdue fines.

13. What if I come to the Library to return the loaned items but it is closed?

You can always place your loaned items in the book drops next to the entrances of the Library and the Learning Commons. However, you are advised to check our opening hours before you come.

14. What is a call number ?

All library materials are classified by subject. Call number prefix is also assigned to the call number to provide additional information on the type / format of the material and the item's location. Please click HERE to view the detailed information on call numbers.

15. Where do I find an item ?

With the Library Catalogue, you may find the location code, the call number and the status of an item. The location codes of the Library include:
